Damatte Keiko, which means Shut Up and Train. This framed print is at the entranceway to my dojo.

The characters in it translate to, “Damatte Keiko” or “Shut-up and train” or more politely, “Don’t talk – Just train”

It is an admonition or friendly reminder to set aside idle chatter and get down to business.

What is “idle chatter”? Politics, Covid, other people’s business, this tenant said this, this other tenant said that, the weather, you name it. Anything other than exactly what you are doing RIGHT NOW.

Damatte Keiko is a reminder, you are here to train and get better. Stop chatting about unimportant things and focus on the task at hand.

There is so much going on in our lives right now. If you are running a small business it can be overwhelming. How do I set aside all that noise and focus sharply on the details that this moment presents right now?

Damatte Keiko. Once you practice at it. One minute at a time, one hour at a time, one day at a time, day after day, year after year, you recognize the urgency and importance of having a skill like this in your toolkit.

Learning how to train and learn without interruption can help turn simple lessons into the kind of transformative moments that enable mastery.

It’s not just showing up. It’s how you walk into the room. AND what you leave behind.

That’s what we’re doing at PM Grow. Setting up a place where from the moment you walk into the room you can set aside all that noise and focus on just a few things that can deeply help you improve what you do.

Come join us. Work hard, have fun.
